Dear Residents of the Middletown City School District,

Welcome to the 2010-11 school year. I'm honored to be a part of the Middletown community and excited to start my first year as your Superintendent of Schools.

A new school year presents opportunities for various beginnings new classes, new faces and new learning opportunities. Each of us will play a role in determining if this school year is a success by having high expectations for each other and remembering to offer support and encouragement when it is necessary.

Parents, I encourage you to not only have high expectations for us, but to also get involved in your child's school. Studies have consistently linked parental involvement with higher student grades and test scores, more positive student attitudes and behaviors, and improved school environments. Family participation in education was found to be twice as predictive of academic learning as family socioeconomic status.

Students, we are excited to see you back in the schools. You are the reason we are here and I want you to know your teachers, principal and other school staff have been working hard this summer to get ready for your return. I encourage you to do your best each day. You only have one opportunity to live the 2010-11 school year, make the best of it.

I pledge to work tirelessly on behalf of the almost 7000 students to ensure you are prepared for college and careers in the 21st century and just as importantly, I'm determined to help the district continue the tradition of excellence that is "Middie Pride".

All the best for an AWESOME School Year!

Regards,

Greg Rasmussen, Superintendent
