The Middletown Boys Varsity Bowling team competed at the end-of-season Sectionals Tournament on Tuesday at Crossgate Lanes. The format is 3 regular games, lunch break, then 6 Bakers. Total pinfall is used to determine the top 7 teams, and top 7 individuals not on those teams, that will move on to the District Championship next week.
The team bowled fairly well, especially on a sports pattern that demands exemplary spare shooting to stay in the hunt and make the cut to move on to Districts. Unfortunately, the boys struggled to make their spares throughout the day, and the end result kept them from moving on.
High scorer for the Middies was Senior Eddie Pritchard with his games of 160, an amazing 234, and then a 169, for a 563 series! Eddie almost make the top 7 individuals but missed the cut by just 10 pins. Great job Eddie! Junior Riley Pritchard bowled good as well after throwing 163, 193, and a 177, for a 538 series! Way to go! Freshman Ben Bales did his best to help the team out when he shot a 161, 155, and a 180! Junior Ethan Isaac was pretty consistent for the day when he rolled a 157, 150, and a 170! And Sophomore Harlynn Davis posted 2 really good games himself by bowling a 184 and a 214!
Unfortunately, the boys shot themselves in the foot with the first game total of 771, which is a big reason they didn't advance, because they did complete their 2nd and 3rd regular games with 2 very good scores of 916 & 910 respectively! Before the Baker round, the team was in 9th place and only 120 pins from the cut, so we knew that we had to step on the gas and come together to make up the difference!
They started with an OK 1st Baker game of 158, but then upped their game with scores of 181, 212, 209, & 184, before falling hard with a 119 to finish out their set. If the 1st and last games were on par with the ones in between, they would have made the cut. But they missed out on advancing by just 104 pins.
With no team and no individual advancing, their season comes to an end. We want to wish our one Varsity Senior Eddie Pritchard the best of luck in his future endeavors, and hope that everyone else had a great time this season and plans to come back for 2026-27!
GO MIDDIES!
